Magazines
You should be familiar with all of the magazines the Delview Library offers its patrons.
Especially, know the titles of the magazines in your section (each Library 11 student will be assigned a section). Check the counter for new editions to be filed. File magazines according to the correct title and date. Magazines go into the file in date order. Oldest on the bottom, newest on the top. Check at least three files each day to shelf read. Take the magazines out of the file, then rearrange the dates correctly. Ensure that the display copy is the most current and is in the proper place on the shelf. |
Checking Magazines into the Library:
When new magazines arrive in the library, it is your job to place them on the display rack or on the shelves in the “reading corner”.
If the magazine has a tab on the display rack, remove the old magazine from the plastic protective jacket and replace it with the new magazine.
Place the back issue on the appropriate back issue stack.
If the magazine has a tab on the shelves, place the current issue on top of the older issues.
You will be assigned a section of the magazine rack to shelf-read. This will require that you check that all magazines are in the appropriate place and that they are filed in chronological order.
Checking Magazines out of the Library:
1. On the Patron’s page, click Add Title.
2. Scan the barcode from one of the empty folders on the shelf.
3. Enter the title of the magazine and the date.
4. Choose “Magazine/Periodical” for Circulation Type and Serial for Material Type.
5. Place the magazine in the empty folder and inform the Patron that the magazine must be returned in the folder so that it can be checked back in.
6. When the magazine is returned, check in the bar code as you would any book and replace the magazine.
Note that current issues cannot be checked out.
